SMS Messaging Policy & Consent

Last updated: October 27, 2026

1. Who sends these messages

TradeRing is a communications tool used by independent home-service contractors (plumbers, roofers, electricians, HVAC technicians and similar trades) operating primarily in the 757 area code of Virginia.

Each contractor is assigned their own local phone number. Messages are sent on behalf of that individual contractor’s business, and every message identifies the business by name. TradeRing operates the software; the contractor is the sender.

2. Message flow — how a message is triggered

There is exactly one way an automated message is sent to a consumer:

  1. The consumer calls the contractor first. A member of the public dials the contractor’s published business number to enquire about work.
  2. The call is not answered — the contractor is on a roof, under a sink, or driving — and the call ends without being picked up.
  3. An automated SMS is sent back to the number that just called, from the contractor’s business number, acknowledging the missed call and asking what the caller needs.

Messages are only ever sent to a phone number that has just placed a voice call to that specific business. TradeRing does not send marketing messages, does not message purchased or scraped lists, and never contacts a number that has not first called the business.

3. Consent

Consent is consumer-initiated. By voluntarily placing a phone call to a business, the caller initiates the contact and reasonably expects that business to respond, including by text, using the number they called from.

The reply is a direct, conversational response to that inbound call. It relates solely to the subject the consumer contacted the business about. No promotional or marketing content is sent under this flow.

There is no web form, keyword or purchased list used to collect recipients for this campaign, because recipients are determined entirely by who calls the business.

4. Sample messages

First automated reply

“Sorry I missed your call — this is [Business Name]. I’m on a job right now. What do you need done, and what’s the address? Reply STOP to opt out.”

Follow-up (conversational)

“Thanks — I can be out tomorrow morning. Does 9am work? — [Business Name]. Reply STOP to opt out.”

5. Message frequency

Conversational and low volume. A consumer typically receives one message per missed call, plus any replies in the resulting conversation — generally fewer than five messages per enquiry. Frequency depends entirely on how often that consumer chooses to call the business.

6. Opting out

Reply STOP to any message to stop immediately. TradeRing also honours UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT and STOPALL. Opt-out is processed automatically and applies permanently to that business’s number — no further automated messages will be sent to that recipient.

7. Rates and carriers

Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

8. Data handling

Phone numbers collected through this flow are used solely to respond to the consumer’s enquiry and are visible only to the contractor they called. They are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Mobile opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties.
